Eggplants
How to choose eggplants
Type first
Settle whether you need edible or decorative type, as both sit under Aubergines.
Fresh or frozen
Within edible, choose fresh for texture or frozen for shelf life.
Read the tags
Check the taxonomy labels (Fruit & Vegetables, Fresh & Frozen Vegetables) to match your intent.
Brand mix
Brands vary across the grid, so weigh pack style or appearance rather than a single name.
What's good
- Items are tagged under Fresh & Frozen Vegetables, so you can find fresh aubergines for immediate use.
- Where frozen edible aubergines appear, they offer storage without preparation.
- The same Aubergines sub-type also gathers non-edible decorative pieces, useful for themed crafts in one place.
Things to watch
- Fresh aubergines are perishable, needing use within days of arrival.
- Non-edible decorative listings won't feed anyone, so confirm the sub-type before choosing.
- Frozen edible aubergines soften in texture, trading bite for convenience.
- The hierarchy from Food down to Aubergines can blend food and non-food, so scrutiny is needed.
Care & maintenance
Fresh storage
Store fresh aubergines in a cool cupboard or fridge crisper, and cook soon.
Freezer care
Keep frozen aubergines in the freezer until you need them.
Decorative upkeep
Dust decorative non-food items lightly with a dry cloth when required.
