How to Choose the Best Dog Crate
Single door versus dual-access layout
Single-door models like the Amazon Basics Large 91cm Metal Dog Crate or Amazon Basics Small 61cm Metal Dog Crate force you to position the cage facing one direction. Dual-door cages like the Cardys Medium Sized Dog Crate or Harbour Housewares 2 Door Metal Dog Crate give you front and side access. This layout lets you place the crate sideways against furniture without blocking your dog's entry point.
Sizing for large and extra-large breeds
For bigger dogs like German Shepherds or Rottweilers, 42-inch options like the Straame Heavy-Duty Folding Dog Crate for XL Dogs and the FurDreams 42 inch Folding Dog Crate provide clearance for turning and lying flat. Smaller 30-inch units, such as the Straame Heavy-Duty Folding Dog Crate for Medium Dogs, will restrict large breeds and suit pets like Cocker Spaniels or Beagles instead.
Adjustability and tray materials
The Amazon Basics Medium Metal Dog Crate with Double Door includes an internal divider panel, making it suitable for growing puppies who need a smaller space initially. If chew resistance is your priority, the Small 24 inch Dog Crate with 2 Doors features a non-chew base tray, whereas models like the Cardys Medium Sized Dog Crate use standard removable plastic trays designed for straightforward cleaning.
