This guide compares manufacturer specifications and buying checks, rather than reporting hands-on testing. The hero is an editorial illustration; the individual product cards show catalogue images and current retailer offers.

Which edition is worth shortlisting?
For predominantly text-based books, the standard Paperwhite is the starting point for comparing offers. The 2024 Signature adds storage, an auto-adjusting front light and wireless charging. Compare the extra cost against the features you will use; a higher storage figure does not improve the text on the screen.
The Signature name also appears on Colorsoft, a different family. Choose Paperwhite for monochrome reading or investigate Colorsoft if colour illustrations and covers are central to your use. Check the exact family rather than treating every 32 GB Kindle as the same reader.
Current 2024 Paperwhite offers
This product’s verified catalogue offers identify the 2024 model; several specify with ads. Confirm the selected retailer’s exact version, delivered price and condition before checkout. Do not assume a title that omits advertising information means an ad-free reader.
Current 2024 Signature Edition offers
The verified offers for this metallic-raspberry product include a listing explicitly describing the 2024 model. Wireless charging support does not mean a charging dock is supplied. Compare the package contents and retailer terms instead of pricing a dock or case against a complete reader.
What changes with the 2026 family?
Amazon’s 2026 announcement describes a redesigned Paperwhite and a Signature with an aluminium rear housing, 32 GB, automatic front-light adjustment, double-tap page turning and pogo-pin dock charging. The 2024 Signature’s wireless-charging description should not be copied onto the new model. Check charger and cover compatibility against the precise release.
Amazon says the new Paperwhite and Colorsoft will become available for preorder on a rolling regional basis, including the UK. As checked on 27 October 2026, the two product cards above are verified 2024 offers, not confirmation of 2026 stock. Compare a new-model preorder’s dispatch date with an older model available now; avoid relying on a retailer’s “newest” wording alone.
Release year, ads and condition checks
Use Amazon’s device-identification guidance and the retailer’s full specification to establish the generation. Check storage, colour, release year, advertising status and whether the listing is new, refurbished or used. A 2021 Paperwhite and a 2024 Paperwhite can both appear in searches, and a title containing “Signature compatible” may describe a case.
For marketplace purchases, confirm the seller, dispatch location, returns and warranty terms. With used devices, check account deregistration, battery condition, screen condition and included charging equipment. A price comparison is useful only when those details match.
Do you need Scribe or Colorsoft instead?
Scribe is the family to investigate for handwriting and notebooks; confirm the exact display, front-light specification and included pen. A Paperwhite is not a substitute for a pen-based note-taking device. Pen tips, replacement pens and Scribe covers can appear alongside full devices in a broad search. Colorsoft is the colour-reading family. Compare its precise release and edition before choosing, because 2024, later standard editions and the announced 2026 family can coexist. Our Kindle collection lets you browse device families and a separate Paperwhite Signature filter while excluding identified accessory-only offers.Track the reader you actually want
